Beelin Baxter Regional Obesity Lead

Who we are

We support the implementation of the Government’s policies for improved outcomes in health and well-being in the East of England, as specified in Healthy Lives Healthy People.  These priorities focus on health improvement and protection, adult social care, health inequalities and social exclusion.

We do this by

  • Supporting Primary Care Trusts in their delivery of their obesity strategy, e.g. pathways, partnership working, use of marketing and communications, healthy weight programmes.

  • Improving workforce knowledge in healthy weight, e.g. training for health and non-health staff in understanding weight issues, and there is a network supported by the National Obesity Forum for people to exchange information and share knowledge.

  • Working with the NHS to improve health and well being of children and young people, e.g. increase prevalence of breastfeeding, understanding good practice in weaning, and childhood nutrition.

  • Co-ordinating healthy lifestyle publicity events using the Change4Life programme, e.g. getting more people to be physically active, and increase fruit and vegetable consumption.
